CH-04900 Chain Wear Indicator
- Description
For best results, check just after the bike has been ridden (Does not to have been far).
A worn chain makes poor shifting and will slip over the cog teeth, resulting in premature wear of chainrings and sprockets.
Features two gauges for checking chain stretch:-
a/ +0.075 per link : Up to 9 speed chain to be replaced soon, in order to avoid sprocket replacement. This is the first side to try and if this side won't go fully in (It doesn't need to be forced), the 0.1 won't and this is good news. If it's a 10 speed chain, replace now!
b/ +0.10 per link : chain be replaced at once; chainrings/sprockets may already be damaged. If the tool goes in on this setting and remains loose, drivetrain damage is very likely.
Precision cut stainless steel.
With this type of checker, we recommend checking the chain AFTER every ride (As you won't get prior warning that the tool is going to fit into the chain). If the bike has stood for any time (And the chain condition is unknown), ride a short distance before checking the chain. This ensures the chain is loosened up.
Please note, this is a precision tool, that requires careful handling in order to maintain accuracy.
Not suitable for 11+ speed chains, as these should be replaced at 0.5% stretch.
